Indian Painting

When I’m out in nature, I often wonder about the people that walked this land before me. I wonder if they thought about the same things that I do. Did they notice the same amazing things in nature that I have? This painting was inspired while hunting teal in the Magee Marsh Wildlife Area. The fog was just lifting. Except for the occasional duck passing by, everything seemed still. Though I know where the borders of the marsh are, it seemed like the marsh went on forever. For a moment I could imagine what the area must have been like before the Great Black Swamp was drained and what the Indians that used this marsh must have experienced.

I love painting people from the past doing something similar to what people do today. I think that it helps us relate and see them as someone not so different from you and I.
