Blue Herons are amazing hunters. They will stand motionless for long periods of time just waiting for an opportunity to present itself. In this painting, the great blue heron is perched on a dead snag overlooking a marshy bog.

If you look close, you will see a frog peaking up through the duckweed. The frog is counting on his camouflage for protection while the blue heron is counting on his eyes. At the moment, it would appear that the frog has won this contest. However, those of you who know great blue herons the way I do, probably know what the near outcome is likely to be.
