“Eastern Wild Turkey” (8” x 10” - Graphite - 2002)
Lonesome Wood Duck

No one can truly understand how much fun and how challenging turkey hunting can be until they’ve tried it. One thing I love about hunting turkeys is trying to fool them and I know if you haven’t hunted turkeys before it sounds like something that wouldn’t be very hard to do. I have found that when most people think of wild turkeys, they tend to think of their experiences with chickens. However, their analogy could not be more off. I believe that turkeys can be one of the toughest things in our country to hunt …especially if you’re hunting on public lands. Their senses are extremely good, particularly their eyes and hearing. The turkey gobble is something that can make a turkey hunter’s heart pound! It breaks the silence like nothing else can. This drawing is mostly for people who have experienced that already. I wanted to convey that moment when the turkey is close enough to hear it walking through the leaves and all of a sudden it sounds off. The gobble seems to either send vibrations through the air or chills up my spine. Either way it gives me goose bumps.
